Short Bio
Jule Rotenberg is a sculptor based in Dallas, Texas. Her goal is to imbue the cold solidity of the bronze with life - movement best captures this energy and is her inspiration. Her work is in private collections in California, Texas, England and Japan.
Statement
I sculpt in wax because I like the texture it gives. I cast in bronze so that I can capture my sculptures placed off-center or mid-action or precariously perched. I want to defy the stereotypical qualities of the medium. My sculptures are heavy; they should really fall over. My inspiration is movement because I want to express action and I want the sculpture to be alive. It is a way for me, the artist, to dance.
Biography
Jule Rotenberg obtained a bachelors degree in fine arts with an emphasis on dance at Southern Methodist University. Upon graduation and after a summer dance program at Duke University, she moved to New York City to pursue professionally her passion for dance. It was then she realized that with a congenital defect in her lower spine she was never going to dance full-time. Disneyland withdrew their offer for her to dance as a Kid of the Kingdom because of it. She turned to another art form in figurative sculpture. She was able to use her knowledge of form, movement, balance, space and negative space in the clay. She then moved to Los Angeles and expanded her study of sculpture. After years of co-running a gallery with her husband, exhibiting in group shows in galleries and producing her own exhibits, and she has returned to Texas with her family.
